Here are the latest reports on Western Digital releases Android app to control set-top boxes remotely
This week, you’ll be able to control your Western Digital set-top box with a free Android app. And you’ll love it. Only days after releasing an equivalent app for iOS, Western Digital has just released WD TV Remote, a free Android app that connects to your Western Digital set-top box over a WiFi connection and allows you to control it from any Android-based device. The app includes one-touch access to every online service available, keyboard entry using Android’s on-screen keyboard, a gesture pad for quick navigation and the ability to connect multiple Android devices at once. WD TV Remote requires Android 2.1 or later to install, as well as a WiFi network and third-generation WD TV Live Hub or TV Live system to run. In other news, development on an Android app to paint your house via gesture controls is proceeding quite nicely.Western Digital releases Android app to control set-top boxes remotely originally appeared on Engadget on Sat, 24 Dec 2011 20:16:00 EDT. Innergie Magic cables wed USB and 30-pin connections, let you break ‘em up on the fly

Here are the latest reports on Innergie Magic cables wed USB and 30-pin connections, let you break ‘em up on the fly
Apple’s 30-pin connection got you feeling down in a world filled with USB? Wish your iDevice cable worked with more of your gizmos? Fret not, as Innergie recently introduced its effort to solve this dilemma with its Magic Cables. The idea is simple, one end is fitted with a standard connector and the opposite side terminates into a mini-USB plug that can be fitted with different tips. Twenty bucks will snag you the Duo variant with a 30-pin adapter and for $5 more you can pick up the Trio if you also need a micro-USB tip. All told, we’re not sure that keeping track of minuscule adapters will prove much better than having a few cables, but if you’re ready to consolidate your cords it may be worth a short. Full press release just past the break.Innergie Magic cables wed USB and 30-pin connections, let you break ‘em up on the fly originally appeared on Engadget on Thu, 08 Dec 2011 08:42:00 EDT. Verizon to offer APIs to give your data rate an on-demand boost, for a price

Here are the latest reports on Verizon to offer APIs to give your data rate an on-demand boost, for a price
There’s a ton of data-dependent apps these days, and with services like iCloud and Spotify gaining steam, your precious bytes of data can get bogged down with all the additional traffic. Help is on the way for Verizon customers, however, as the company plans to release an API that will allow users to speed up their connection at will from within apps. This network optimization API will be joined by a microtransaction API (developed in conjunction with Vodafone) to make sure Big Red gets paid for every bit of bandwidth nitro you ask for. Work on the APIs is ongoing at VZW’s Innovation Center in San Francisco, but neither API will be ready for prime time until next year. That’s a long time to wait, but the idea of improving our data connection at the press of a button has us positively giddy. What about you?

Poll: What’s broken (or working) for you in iOS 5?
Oct 30th
Here are the latest reports on Poll: What’s broken (or working) for you in iOS 5?
If you haven’t updated to iOS 5 by now, let’s face it: you never will. It’s cool. We get it. Some of us are still using Netscape, too. For the rest of the iOS universe, though, iOS 5 has almost certainly been installed, and now that you’ve had a few weeks to tinker with it, we’re interested in seeing what quirks are being found. We’ve received a number of reports surrounding call connection issues (on both Verizon Wireless and AT&T), “invalid SIM” warnings, a bug that shows an inbox as being full (when it clearly isn’t) and iCloud refusing to load email altogether. Oh, and then there’s that pesky Siri pincode bypass — tsk, tsk! Toss your vote in below, and converse amongst yourselves in comments. Sharing is caring!
