Here are the latest reports on Sony NEX-F3 and A37 cameras hands-on and sample shots
Sony’s newest NEX and DSLR have already graced these pages — albeit in decidedly unofficial fashion — but the time has come for this duo of shooters to be revealed to the world with the blessing of their maker. In case you didn’t catch the earlier leaks, the NEX-F3 is the replacement for the much-beloved NEX-C3 as the entry-level ILC from Sony, while the A37 slots in the same place in the company’s Alpha DSLR lineup. Sony’s also rolling out fresh glass for each this July, in the form of an E-mount 18-200mm, F3.5-6.3 zoom lens for $850, and an 18-135mm F3.5-5.6 A-mount telephoto unit that’ll set you back $500. Both the NEX-F3 and A37 will come with kit 18-55mm lenses and cost $600 when they go on sale in June, which makes them quite competitively priced as compared to their competition. An enviable pricing position, to be sure, but can they deliver the imaging goods? Well, we spent time with each on a tour of San Francisco recently, so join us after the break for our impressions and some sample photos.

Here are the latest reports on Chevrolet replacing 120-volt power cords on most Volt automobiles
If you’re one of the 10,000 or so folks who pay insurance on a Chevrolet Volt, you may have a new cable coming your way. According to The Detroit News and Yahoo! Autos, General Motors will soon be sending out replacement 120-volt charging cords for Volt automobiles, which are said to “offer some more consistency in charging,” while also making it more durable. We’re told that some of the newfangled chargers have shipped with recent Volts, but the majority of customers were sent home with the older model. Of note, GM won’t be swapping out any of those optional 240-volt cords, and the company won’t consider this a recall or safety issue. As for getting your replacement? Owners are slated to be notified directly in the “next few weeks.”

83-year old woman gets replacement 3D printed titanium jaw, makes her the coolest member of the bridge club

Here are the latest reports on 83-year old woman gets replacement 3D printed titanium jaw, makes her the coolest member of the bridge club
3D printers are continuing to force their way into medical applications and the latest beneficiary is an 83-year old woman. She’s the first patient to receive a titanium jaw crafted by those not-so dimensionally-challenged printers. The method was developed by the BIOMED Research Institute at Hasselt University in Belgium and creates the replacement from layer-upon-layer of titanium dust. A computer-controlled laser ensures that the correct molecules are fused together. The technique, the first to replace the entire jaw, takes mere hours to make the substitute choppers, with other options taking several days. While the final product weighs a bit more than its natural predecessor, but that didn’t stop the patient returning close to “normal speaking and swallowing” the day after the operation.

Here are the latest reports on Caption Contest: Bakebot learns to actually bake things, feed the looming robot army
Aww, look! Bakebot’s soooo cute! He’s actually cooking things these days, thanks to MIT grad student Mario Bollini, who recently upped the creature’s skill level in an effort to grab more calories with less effort. Little did he know, however, that teaching a self-contained machine how to feed the future uprising wasn’t exactly the best long-term move. No, that creeping feeling of fear isn’t unwarranted.
Darren: “01001111 01001101 01000111 00100000 01000011 01001111 01001111 01001011 01001001 01000101 01010011!”
Terrence: “Bakebot’s lessons with the master chef were going so well, until his Bork to binary translator failed”
Brian: “Bakebot love kitten. Bakebot eat kitten.”
Brad: “Stephanie! Johnny no add vanilla!”
Sean: “It’s so unfair! I have eight other senses, but I’d trade them all — even smision — to be able to taste.”
Christopher: “Rachel Ray hit a wall with 15 minute meals, so we found a faster, more charismatic replacement. Meet Rachel Number 5.”
Michael: “Here I thought the robot apocalypse would be powered by nuclear fusion and laser beams, turns out it’ll be running on profiteroles and delicious cakes.”
Jon: “I’m toasting bread in my head right now…seriously”
Zach: “You want me to wear a what? Why don’t you trying sticking a fan in your scalp. Then you can tell me to wear a hairnet.”
Joseph: “How do ya like my ganache now, Martha???”
Daniel: “A robot may not injure a cupcake or, through inaction, allow a cupcake to come to harm.”
Richard Lai: “How do you like them cookies, Firefox?”
Jose: “How am I supposed to add a teaspoon of sugar with this underperforming Kinect camera?”
Kevin: “Enough with the cakes, what was Leia saying about our only hope?”
Dana: “I. Love. A. Little. Bourbon. In. My. Cookies. Don’t. You.”
Richard Lawler: “Death to all humans. Sweet, delicious, chocolatey… death.”
Don: “Just don’t call him Iron Chef. He hates that.”
Billy: “Ace of Cakes was canceled because I annihilated the host.. now I must weaponize that Millennium Falcon cake.”
Zachary: “Jobless MIT grad narrowly avoids soup kitchen, emerges from basement with replacement mother.”
